Dana Opens Vehicle Assembly Plant In Lagos

Last weekend, Dana unveiled a new vehicle assembly plant in Lagos in a bid to manufacture cars of different brands in the country.

The company said that the opening of plant, Universal Vehicle Assembly Limited, UVAL, was in line with the Federal Government’s policy of vehicle manufacturing in the country.

The Chief Operating Officer, COO, Mr. Gitesh Yagnik, said that the plant was capable of manufacturing 27,000 vehicles annually, but could go up to 36, 000 if the need arose.

Yagnik explained that the plant was constructed in a record 90 days and has since commenced operations in March while no fewer than nine models of the KIA family had already been churned out to the public for sales.

According to him, some of the fully tropicalised vehicle brands manufactured to meet the Nigerian and African road condition so far manufactured in the plant are, Rio, Picanto, Cerato and Soul.

He said: “No any major challenge so far because in this plant we are developing what we need locally, all the fabrication items are designed here, we give it to our fabricators they fabricate here, even the skills, the trolleys; we do them here, everything is sourced here, so we are trying our best to see that maximum resources are sourced from Nigeria.
