Court Convicts 19 For Traffic Offences

A Mobile Court of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has convicted 19 persons, who were arrested last week for various traffic offences in Enugu state.

The Enugu State Sector Commander of the commission, Mr David Mendie, said that, apart from those convicted, two others were discharged and acquitted by the court during the exercise.

He noted that many of the convicted traffic offenders were given option of fines, adding that one of them, identified as Amechi Ozor, who was apprehended for using worn-out tyres, non-usage of seat belt, among others, was sentenced to two weeks imprisonment.

According to him, Ozor, who was driving a Mitsubishi L300 Vehicle with registration No KR, S1CXK, mobilised people against the Marshals on duty shortly after he was flagged down.

He said that Ozor was however arrested by the police shortly after his action and arraigned before a Mobile court that sentenced him to two weeks imprisonment.

Mendie advised motorists and pedestrians to acquire better knowledge of traffic rules and obey them at all times.

He warned that any motorist that violates traffic laws must face the full weight of the law, warning against drunk driving, and that motorists to avoid using phones while driving.
